London is one of the most vibrant shopping cities in the world with over 40,000 shops and home to all the world's major brands and designers. As a shopping destination it offers numerous days of exploring, but where do you start and where do you go to find all the best bargains if you are only in London for a weekend?

The central shopping axis of the City is Oxford Street, Regent Street and Tottenham Court Road. Oxford Street is home to all the mainstream high street brands, such as Gap, Monsoon and French Connection and several department stores such as Selfridges, John Lewis and Debenhams. The main sales period is in January and August. Tottenham Court Road is renowned for its IT and electrical range of shops, alongside some large homeware outlets such as Heals and Habitat, the latter having a clearance section inside where you can always find reduced items. Regent Street contains some luxury brands outlets such as Hugo Boss, Aquascutum and Swarovski.

Adjacent to Bond Street Tube Station runs Old/New Bond Street, the most congested street in London of designer brands including Armani, Burberry and Nicole Farhi. Just off this street you will find the sale shop of Paul Smiths on Avery Row. This street will lead you to Jermyn Street which contains London's famous shirt and suits tailors which supply the world.

Walking up to Regent Street to Covent Garden you will enter the shopping district of Covent Garden. An eclectic array of shops and boutiques can be found here, many fashion focused with a high concentration of trendy trainers and footwear outlets on Neal Street.

Having accessed the above areas all on foot, transport is now required to travel to three further destinations: Knightsbridge and Kings Road which connect on foot via Sloane Street and High Street Kensington. On Kings Road you will find the sale shop for Joseph and also for LK Bennett.

For visitors to London seeking to maximize their shopping time and budget check out a shopping guide www.lynku.com which has an up to date list of the latest shop sales in London to help plan your visit, from designer fashion boutiques to department stores.

If you have time left and really want to find some great deals, then travel to Bicester Village just outside Oxford. Bicester Village is one of the largest concentrations of outlet shops in the UK with brands such as The White Company, Ralph Lauren and Nicole Farhi having clearance stores there.
